Description

A wonderful old antique Rabbit in Cabbage Automaton. A delightful wind up toy with music -when wound the rabbits head rises out of the cabbage and turns around, his ears also move up and down, raising and lowering as the music plays, while his mouth chews a piece of lettuce. I believe it was made in Germany, (the restorer found papers in German inside).

A video of this Rabbit in Cabbage can be seen here

Most likely from the late 1800's to early 1900's.  The rabbit has had his fur replaced and the music box has been cleaned and oiled, this was all done by an automaton restorer.  A key will be included, but it is not the original.  The green leaves of the cabbage are showing their age a bit, some soiling, some tiny holes, I think of it as the way cabbage would truly be in the garden.

With his head in the lower position he is approx. 7 1/2 inches tall.

I saw my first Rabbit In Cabbage in the old movie, "You Can't Take It With You" with Lionel Barrymore, James Stewart, and Jean Arthur. It is a wonderful old movie, if you haven't seen it you should surely check it out.
