Description

A very nice Tonquin bone dish by Clarice Cliff, Royal Staffordshire, England.  Blue transferware in an oriental pattern, house, trees, arched bridge, flowers. This dish is in very good condition, no usage wear, no chips or cracks.

Bone dishes were used to hold fish bones discarded at the dining table, and were considered a necessary part of dining at the Victorian table.  The dish should be placed to the left of the dinner plate.  Bone dishes were a favorite gift to brides in the late 1800's.

This dish is approx. 3 x 6 3/4 inches.
