Description

A wonderful brown wool, vintage child's sailor suit. In the early 20th century some suits were made in grey and brown.  These were usually for play as they didn't show dirt like a lighter suit.

I sent pictures of this suit to a knowledgeable person, he said he had never seen a cut-away jacket, and the army insignia on a sailor suit was strange. He dated it at late 1800's or early 1900's. I just think it is a wonderful piece of history. The jacket and knickers are a dark brown wool. The shirt is, I believe, a heavy cotton. There is an army emblem on the sleeve of the jacket. The jacket is part of the shirt, it cannot be removed. There is a small pocket in the shirt,  the "dickie", or triangle piece of the shirt can be removed. The knickers have pockets and are lined. One of the buttons on the front of the knickers was missing, I removed one from the back to replace it, and added a similiar button of my own in the back. From the looks of the thread for the other buttons, they have been there awhile. I do not know a size, from the top of the knickers to the bottom is 15 1/2 inches, measuring the top of the length of the sleeve is 14 inches. The approximate total length of the outfit is 29 inches. It is stained, mainly the collar, and front of the shirt, there are holes, one in the front of the shirt, near the knee of the knickers, some small moth looking holes or wear on the shoulders, back of the jacket, and between the legs of the knickers, a small hole on the back collar, and a hole beside the large left button on the back, I may miss a few. That all stated, for it's age and rarity, I think it is wonderful.
