A very nice copy of Children and Books by May Hill Arbuthnot.  Published in 1964 by Scott, Foresman, and Company.

Excerpt from Preface - Children and Books grew in the first place out of the tantalizing questions adults are always asking:  "What kind of books do children like?"  "How can we get our children to read more and better books?"  It grew also out of many observations of children choosing or rejecting books in their homes, nursery schools, libraries, and classrooms.

Partial List of Contents  -The Child and his Books,  Children's Books History and Trends, Mother Goose and the Ballads, Growing up with Poetry,  Old Magic, New Magic, Storytelling and Reading Aloud, Here and Now, Biography, Reading for Information.

There are twenty one chapters with much information, black and white illustrations on most pages, eight color pages with front and back illustrations.  A total of 688 pages.

This book is in very good condition, corners and spine are lightly worn, one small word written inside front cover, pages are clean and tight, page edges, fore edge have light soiling, this book has a very, very slight basement? odor.
